Membership of the BIA is open to all graduates in medicine and science and to members of other professional groups who support the objectives of the BIA. Below are the prices and criteria for membership.

Full Membership (£100 annually) - a category of membership having full voting rights, open to those with an interest in infection, including Medical Consultants and Associate Specialists, Consultant Clinical Scientists, Consultant Pharmacists, Consultant Nurses, Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers in university departments.

Trainee Membership (£0 annually) a category of membership having full voting rights, open to any infection specialist in training in the UK and Republic of Ireland including resident doctors and clinical scientists.

Associate Membership (£0 annually) a category of membership having full voting rights, open to any healthcare professional who does not fulfil ‘Full Membership criteria’ who has a professional interest in infection including pharmacists, pharmacy staff, technical staff, laboratory scientists, nurses, undergraduates, postgraduate researchers and other groups at the discretion of council.

Retired Membership (£10 annually) a category of membership having no voting rights, but having the right to receive copies of all papers circulated to Full Members and having the right to attend but not vote at general meetings. Open to members of the BIA who retire having been a full member for a minimum of 10 years.
